Bolívar is a historic Cuban cigar brand established in 1902 and named after Simón Bolívar, the influential South American independence leader. The brand is currently based at the Partagás factory in Havana.
Bolívar occupies the fuller end of the Habanos portfolio and is officially classified as full strength. Its cigars use selected Cuban tobacco from the Vuelta Abajo region of Pinar del Río, an area renowned for producing tobacco used in premium Habanos.
The marque is particularly associated with a rich and concentrated smoking profile. Typical characteristics include earthy tobacco, wood, leather, roasted notes, coffee, cocoa and spice, although the precise balance varies considerably between individual vitolas and according to maturation.
All Bolívar Habanos are totally handmade with long-filler tobacco. The range includes established formats such as the Bolívar Royal Coronas and Belicosos Finos, alongside historic, limited and specialist releases. Habanos has also used Bolívar for notable productions such as the Gold Medal, Libertador and Soberano Edición Limitada.
Its combination of traditional Cuban construction, Vuelta Abajo tobacco and a characteristically powerful blend has made Bolívar particularly popular among smokers who favour fuller-flavoured Havana cigars.
