What is Shag Tobacco?
Shag tobacco refers to a type of finely cut, loose pipe tobacco that has a faster burn rate than other Pipe Tobacco for a more hay like texture and flavour.
Shag tobacco comes in a variety of blends and flavours, ranging from mild to strong, and has a high level of moisture than hand rolling tobacco so that it burns slower but is drier compared to the more traditional pipe tobacco. It is easy to light and burns evenly and smoothly but requires more tamping to stop overheating and flare ups in the pipe.

Why is it called Shag Tobacco?
Shag tobacco gets its name from the fine, loose cut of the tobacco, which resembles strands or fibres. The term "shag" likely originated from the old English word meaning a rough or coarse surface, referring to the texture of the cut tobacco. The name reflects the distinctive appearance and preparation style of the tobacco.

Can I use shag tobacco for cigarettes?
There has been much controversy over the years as Shag Tobacco is taxed at a lower rate of Duty to hand rolling tobacco and thus people have used it to make cigarettes and save money compared to the higher taxed hand rolling tobacco. We do not endorse the use of shag tobacco for making cigarettes.
