How to Use Flake Tobacco

  1. Break or Rub the Flake: Flake tobacco comes in pressed sheets, so you’ll need to either break it into small pieces or rub it out between your fingers to loosen the strands. The choice depends on your preference—rubbing it out fully allows for a more consistent burn, while using larger pieces offers a slower, cooler smoke.

  2. Pack the Pipe: Once the flake is broken or rubbed out, gently fill your pipe. Start by placing a loose layer of tobacco at the bottom, then pack slightly more firmly as you fill the bowl. Be careful not to pack too tightly, as this can restrict airflow.

  3. Light the Tobacco: Use a match or lighter to evenly light the tobacco. Initially, the tobacco may rise, so use a tamper to gently press it down. Repeat this process until the tobacco is lit consistently.

  4. Smoke Slowly: Flake tobacco burns more slowly than loose-cut tobacco, so take gentle, slow puffs to enjoy the full flavour. This will also help prevent the tobacco from getting too hot and harsh.

  5. Tamp as Needed: Throughout your smoke, use a tamper to gently press the tobacco down to maintain an even burn. Relight as necessary.

Using flake tobacco requires a bit more preparation, but it rewards smokers with a rich, slow-burning, and enjoyable experience.
