The Design Berlin Captain DBP050 is a straight 9mm briar pipe featuring a smooth reddish-brown finish, black acrylic mouthpiece and distinctive polished metal Army-style mounting system.

Its traditional Straight Billiard profile uses a tall, substantial bowl with a flat rim and straight shank. The smooth polished finish reveals the individual grain of the briar, with the photographed example displaying pronounced figuring across both sides of the bowl and tightly defined grain along the shank.

A prominent feature of the Captain series is its metal-mounted connection. The briar shank terminates in a broad polished fitting, while the black acrylic mouthpiece carries a corresponding metal section. Together they create the stepped silver-coloured junction visible in the photographs and give the otherwise traditional Billiard a more distinctive appearance.

The glossy black acrylic mouthpiece is finished with Design Berlin's gold DB emblem, complementing the warm reddish stain of the briar.

Designed to accept 9mm pipe filters, the DBP050 combines a classic straight format with the practical filtration traditionally associated with German pipe making. Design Berlin's adoption of 9mm filtration dates back to the development of the DB marque during the 1970s.

Design Berlin traces its history to Hubert Hartmann's Berlin pipe business, founded in 1948. The Design Berlin name was introduced around 1975, following years of development under pipe maker and designer Lothar Schirwitz.
