The Design Berlin Captain DBP052 is a full-bent 9mm briar pipe combining traditional German pipe construction with the distinctive polished metal mounting used throughout the Captain series.

Its substantial Bent Billiard bowl has an upright profile with gently tapered sides and a rounded heel. A smooth polished finish in deep reddish-brown highlights the natural variation of the briar, with darker grain providing considerable depth beneath the glossy surface.

The Captain series is immediately recognisable by its prominent silver-coloured metal mounting. A broad shaped fitting surrounds the end of the briar shank, while a second polished section forms the transition into the mouthpiece. The contrast between reddish briar, bright metal and glossy black acrylic gives the DBP052 a particularly distinctive appearance.

A deeply curved black acrylic stem completes the full-bent profile and carries Design Berlin's gold DB emblem. The strong bend raises the mouthpiece well above the bowl and produces a compact, traditional silhouette when viewed from the side.

The DBP052 is designed to accept 9mm pipe filters.

Design Berlin's origins date to the post-war German pipe industry, with Hubert Hartmann establishing the original business in Berlin in 1948. Lothar Schirwitz joined several years later and played an important role in developing the firm's designs. The Design Berlin name was introduced during the 1970s, and production later became associated with Schweina in Thuringia.

The Captain DBP052 is the fully bent interpretation within the Captain range, offering a more pronounced curve and compact overall profile than the DBP050 straight and DBP051 half-bent models.
