Balmoral

Balmoral is a historic cigar marque dating back to 1895, with the name derived from Balmoral Castle in Scotland. The brand later became part of Dutch cigar manufacturer Royal Agio Cigars and developed into an internationally recognised premium handmade cigar range.

Balmoral's modern premium identity was developed under fourth-generation Royal Agio chief executive Boris Wintermans, with particular emphasis on carefully selected and aged tobaccos from several important growing regions.

A major step came with Balmoral Añejo 18, which featured an exceptionally old Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper. Limited supplies of this 18-year-aged tobacco eventually led to the creation of Balmoral Añejo XO, which continued the focus on mature tobacco while introducing a new Brazilian wrapper blend.

The Añejo XO family subsequently expanded into several distinct blends. These have included Añejo XO Connecticut, Añejo XO Oscuro and Añejo XO Nicaragua, using tobaccos from countries including Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Mexico, Ecuador and the United States.

Balmoral premium cigars have traditionally been handcrafted at the company's facility in San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic.

Royal Agio was acquired by Scandinavian Tobacco Group in 2020, bringing Balmoral into the STG portfolio. Since the acquisition, the range has evolved and availability of particular blends and sizes varies between markets. Current and recent lines include members of the established Añejo XO family alongside newer releases such as Balmoral Puro Dominicana, introduced in 2024.

Across the range, Balmoral is particularly associated with aged tobaccos, distinctive multinational blends and premium handmade construction, offering profiles ranging from creamy and aromatic to rich, dark and spicy.
