Store your cigars properly
Properly humidified cigars will remain in great condition indefinitely. The best way to ensure proper humidification is to invest in a proper humidifier that is fit for purpose. Cigars in the humidor should be maintained at around 21 degrees celsius with a corresponding humidity level of around 70%.
When you are storing cigars, it is of paramount importance that you ensure the temperature and humidity are kept at a constant level. Fluctuations in both heat and humidity can therefore cause cigars to split or crack.
Most small cigars, however, do not require additional humidity to stay fresh, many European cigars for instance are subjected to a baking process during the manufacturing process that alleviates the need for storage in a humidor for that reason, many folks refer to them as dry cigars. Others, however, are individually wrapped in cellophane which means they will maintain their freshness without sacrificing the integrity due to humidity or temperature considerations.
