Slow down there, don’t despair just yet, use this little cigar repair guide in order to rescue your prized cigar.
Repairing a peeling cigar wrapper.
When the cigar wrapper is peeling away, a great many smokers hurriedly work to reattach it with a bit of their saliva, or even vaseline or lip balm. This is not a good plan. You’re better off using something like acacia power, which can be found in the baking aisle of most grocery stores. Alternatively, you can use Pectin, usually used for jam and jelly in the process of canning them. This can also be found also in food shops.
To fix a peeling cigar wrapper, merely mix acacia powder or pectic with something like distilled water, do this until the consistency increases and it becomes somewhat gummy. You can mix the water and the powder together in a drink’s bottle lid and use a toothpick to stir.
The resulting substance can then be applied to the wrapper and you can use this to roll the peeling part of the leaf into place.
Repairing a crack in your cigar
A crack in the middle of your cigar can leak smoke – literally! It also hampers the draw and the burn. In order to repair it, you will have to use the aforementioned acacia powder, pectin and a patch. This should be a small piece of donor tobacco. This can be from the stub of another cigar, ideally of the same or of a similar blend.
Add the paste to the patch, and paste it over the crack, before waiting for it to dry.
If the crack is problematic in a way that it begins at the foot of a cigar, and is shorter than an inch long, then it might be easier to just cut the cigar above the crack. You should do this with a sharp and powerful cutter if this is the case.
Repairing up minor cigar wrapper issues is very straightforward as long as you use the right tools and correct techniques.
